How to Install a Motorcycle Sprocket

If the get up and go on your motorcycle has progressively deteriorated over the time of your ownership, the likely culprit is the motorcycle sprockets. Though these two small pieces look inconsequential in respect to some of the other parts, they actually play a huge part in the overall performance of your motorcycle. The logical step is to replace your sprockets, and perhaps the chain, in order to get your motorcycle moving as quickly as you want. The process of replacing them is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. Follow these easy steps, and enjoy a better-running motorcycle.
First: Removing the old sprocket
The first step to installing new sprockets is to remove the old ones. You begin by removing the rear tire of your motorcycle; the rear sprocket is attached to the interior of the wheel. By using either a pressure wrench or just a regular wrench, start removing each of the nuts from the hub. When they are all removed, gently wiggle the old sprocket off, and set it aside.
Second: Installing the new sprocket
Once the old sprocket is off, grab the new sprocket, and place it so that the holes where the nuts fit are lined up evenly. Wiggle it into place until the new sprocket is sitting flush against the tire mount hub. Once done, you need to screw all of the nuts back into place, making sure that each one is snug and secure on each bolt. Going around a couple of times to ensure they are all tightly screwed on is highly recommended, as a loose screw can cause serious safety issues.
